Hi we’re Graeme and Julie Skinner and hopefully this will be our garden blog. We both have the same ideas about gardening, keep it simple, be as organic as possible, help the wildlife, grow some veg and enjoy the garden at every opportunity.
So inspired and encouraged by other folks we decided to start this blog, partly to share our experiences and partly to give us the kick up the rear we need to actually get on with all the plans we have for the space we have.
As we get used to writing the blog we’ll add different categories and you’ll be able to read about the veg plot, the bee friendly plants, the wild area and so on.
Feel free to chime in at any point with hints, tips and ideas, you never know we might even listen to you!

So where are we? Situated just 3 miles from Penrith in Cumbria we look over farmland to the Pennines across the Eden Valley. It’s a lovely place to be but rather exposed to the elements, we know what damage the wind can do here, sometimes we’ve even chased the washing over the field after the wind blew it off the line! Winter was tough here this year, we had 4 solid weeks of snow and ice and there were days when we couldn’t go out at all. We’re waiting to see if this has had any lasting effect on the garden, although everything is already way behind for Spring.

So now we just have to hope that Spring arrives soon and that the daffodils will burst out into that lovely cheerful yellow that just makes the world seem a nice place again.
